Anisa grew up in Durban at a time when young girls in her community faced challenges in furthering their studies and careers. Despite her background, Anisa achieved outstanding results at school and university – she was head prefect, class valedictorian and a dean’s commendation awardee. With the CA(SA) grounding – which Anisa believes was life changing − she went on to build a successful career in professional services and corporate across a diverse range of industries. Today, she is the Head of Technical Accounting for Sasfin.

Anisa’s career began when she was a top student achiever selected to join KPMG for academic articles where she lectured young and upcoming CAs. She continued her career as an auditor in consumer markets and technology and later as an associate director in technical accounting.

Anisa was awarded an opportunity for a secondment to London. She was the youngest secondee from South Africa selected after a rigorous process. In this role, she was the lead global manager for the new leases standard and was an author and contributor to KPMG’s IFRS manual, thought-leadership publications and training released internationally. She was also a member of KPMG’s global presentation topic team representing Africa and was considered the ‘go-to’ expert in KPMG South Africa on the new leases standard.

Anisa made the leap from professional services when she joined Sasfin as its Head of Technical Accounting. She oversees all technical accounting matters for the bank, is a member of the Finance Manco and leads a growing team within finance that plays a cross-functional role with tax, cosec, legal and business to ensure compliance with IFRS and finance efficiency optimisation.

Anisa’s passion for learning and development is embedded throughout her career, initially as an academic articles lecturer and now as an accredited IFRS trainer, a SAICA-registered assessor and a SAICA mentor.

Anisa is a mum of two boys and considers that her greatest success is living her faith, values and the belief that you can do all the things you want to − you can be a working mum and have a meaningful career. You can be successful in a corporation and still be strong in your faith. She believes strongly in setting an example for other young women, and that being multifaceted and choosing your career path does not negate the other parts of oneself. On the contrary, it is what makes you successful in whatever you choose to do.
