Nkosinathi Hlophe’s personal and career experiences have led him to pursue his life-long goal of deliberately pursuing entrepreneurship and finance as tools for sustainable development across sub-Saharan Africa.

Born and bred in Soweto, his life is a testament to how an enabling socio-economic environment can unleash latent human potential. Nathi has developed, funded and executed energy projects nearing 100 MW throughout his career.

His current focus is on building enduring brands designed to meet Africa’s demand for secure, affordable and sustainable energy.
His areas of expertise cover finance, strategy, venture building and ethical leadership.

Nathi is managing director of Energy Generation Africa, a fast-growing product solutions provider of world-renowned solar PV and battery energy storage products, and non-executive director of Steam Generation Africa, a multi-million-rand turnkey boiler plant technology EPCM. Both companies are PE-funded investees geared towards transitioning their customers towards a low-carbon future.

Nathi is completing his master’s in energy leadership at Wits Business School and has written articles in multiple publications and presented at conferences providing thought leadership on the rapidly changing energy industry.

He additionally serves as vice-president of the Energy Service Company Association of South Africa (EASA), as a board member of the R300-million Thrive Private Equity Fund, as a South African Energy Association NPC (SANEA) Youth Committee advisor, and as an active member of the Black Energy Professionals Association (BEPA) renewable energy and oil and gas working groups that are lobbying for just energy transition along the pillars of people, the planet and profit.
